OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., this weekend for the ITA Southern Regional Championships. The tournament begins Friday and concludes Monday with the finals.
The Southern Region includes schools from the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. The winners of the singles and doubles will earn a spot in the ITA National Indoor in November.
"The guys have been working hard since the All-American, and we're looking forward to this weekend, head coach Billy Chadwick said. The Southern Regional is a very competitive one with SEC schools Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State among the teams we will be competing against."
The Rebels will be led by junior Marcel Thiemann and senior Tucker Vorster. Thiemann is ranked No. 15 in the nation and reached the third round at the recent D'Novo ITA All-American Championships. Vorster advanced to the semifinals at last year's Southern Regional and is ranked No. 58.
Also competing this weekend are junior Chris Thiemann, sophomores Adrian Forberg Skogeng and Jonas Lutjen, and freshman Alex Durham.
Ole Miss boasts two of the top doubles teams in the region with Marcel and Chris Thiemann, who are ranked No. 10 in the nation. Vorster and Lutjen are ranked No. 22.
