OXFORD, Miss. - Led by strong scores from Keely Stankey, the Ole Miss Rebel rifle team turned in a team aggregate score of 4602 to finish fifth at the home-opening Ole Miss Invitational hosted at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center over the weekend.
Stankey, a junior from Minneapolis, Minn., fired a team-high 584 in the air rifle to pace the Rebel line. Seniors Meredith Holman and Colleen Tillson and freshman Abigail Stanec all finished close behind with a score 582, while junior Kim Coffey finished with a mark of 578. Ole Miss closed with a team air aggregate of 2330.
In the smallbore, Stankey also led the squad firing a total of 572. Holman's total of 570 finished just behind Stankey and Stanec placed third on the team with a mark of 566. Tillson rounded out the Rebels' smallbore scoring with a mark of 564 to give the team a smallbore aggregate of 2272.
"This score was probably our best start ever to a season, but we still have some work to do," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "As much as we have improved, so have the other teams, but we have a lot of fighters on our team. We will continue to work hard every day until we get to where we need to be. I have no doubts that this is only the beginning for this team."
Next up, Ole Miss will host N.C. State this Saturday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
