FLUSHING, N.Y. - For the first time in their collegiate careers, the twin Rebel duo of Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann are in the final four of a national event, advancing to the semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Friday here at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
The Thiemann's defeated the California team of Nick Andrews and Christoffer Konigsfeldt, 9-7. Marcel and Chris jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Cal duo, ranked No. 29 in the country, broke back. The Rebel pair gained another break for the win to improve to 7-1 this fall.
"They were a very good team, it was a great match," Chris said. "It is a great achievement for us (to be in the semifinals). All the hard work this semester is paying off. We are playing great, but we want more!"
Next up for the Thiemann's is the Texas team of Jean Anderson and Ed Corrie who upset the No. 2 seeds in the first round and then beat a team from Armstrong Atlantic in the second round. The Longhorn duo is ranked No. 24 in the nation.
"We are familiar with them," said Marcel of the Texas team. "We just need to stick to what we have been doing the last couple of weeks, because it's worked well so far."
