3/10/2010 | Men's Basketball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A standout player and former head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, Cob Jarvis will be honored at this week's Southeastern Conference Tournament as one of 12 "Legends of SEC Basketball," sponsored by Chick-fil-A, a program that began in 1999.

In three varsity seasons with the Rebels, Jarvis established 18 new school records and became the first Ole Miss player to gain first-team All-SEC recognition twice, as well as the first with All-SEC credentials in both basketball and baseball. The 6-foot-3 sharpshooter from Booneville, Miss., barely missed leading the SEC in scoring his junior season, finishing with a 23.2 average.

Jarvis scored 1,313 career points before moving on to the coaching ranks. He served eight seasons as the Ole Miss head coach from 1969-76. He was inducted into the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame in 1988 and was named to Ole Miss' All-Century Team.

Jarvis will be publically recognized during halftime of Ole Miss' quarterfinal game on Friday.
