Women's Golf Tied For 3rd At SEC Championship

4/16/2010 | Women's Golf

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Ole Miss women's golf team shot an even par 284 on day one of the SEC Championship here Friday at the NorthRiver Yacht Club and stands in a tie for third.

Freshman Haley Sanders picked up right where she left off when she tied for second at the Rebel Intercollegiate, firing a 1-under 70 at the Par 71, 6,057 yard course. Her round, which included three birdies, put her in a tie for seventh.

Senior Sara Grantham also carded a 70 and is tied for seventh. She posted two birdies on her front nine. Sophomore Haley Millsap shot an even par 71 and is tied for 14th. Natalie Gleadall turned in a 73 to round out the scoring.

"The team played a great round of golf today," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "They each had a personal game plan and each did a great job of executing. NorthRiver is a championship venue and you have to take what the golf course gives you, and today we capitalized. We are looking forward to teeing it up tomorrow."

Arkansas and Georgia both shot 4-under (280) to take the first round lead. Vanderbilt and LSU also posted a 284 to tie with Ole Miss for third.

The Rebels will tee off the second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. from No. 1. Fans can follow all the action through live scoring by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the Rebel Hub.
