Sara Grantham Named To All-SEC Second Team

4/27/2010 | Women's Golf

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ole Miss senior golfer Sara Grantham has been named to the All-SEC second team as the 2010 conference yearly awards were announced Monday.

"We are proud of Sara and all that she is accomplishing in her senior season," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "For a player that was told over the years that she needed to hit it further to compete on the SEC level, Sara just proved that nothing measures heart, passion and a willingness to work harder than anybody else to reach her goals. A coach dreams of having a team that is filled with players like Sara, and I am grateful everyday to have that opportunity."

Grantham is one of 16 players to earn All-SEC honors in a league that boasts seven teams in the Top 25. She becomes the second player under Drinkard to earn All-SEC honors, joining Dori Carter who was named to the first team as a junior and senior.

"It's been a battle from the start. I came into this conference knowing it would be tough, and I got a reality check my freshman year. I had to make some adjustments," Grantham said. "One of the biggest changes was when coach (Drinkard) came. Having more structure in practices and just the entire program has made a big difference for me. Also, I switched swing instructors to Hank Johnson. He stuck with me and believed in me. With a lot of hard work over the past two years, I've been able to accomplish a lot."

Grantham leads the team with a 75.11 stroke average, two top-five, three top-10 and five top-20 finishes on the year. She recently tied for fifth at the SEC Championship in her home state of Alabama (NorthRiver Yacht Club - Tuscaloosa). Grantham has also led the Rebels to their second consecutive postseason appearance, as the team heads to Indiana next week for the NCAA Central Regional.
