OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis assistant coach Toby Hansson has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southern Regional Assistant Coach of the Year as the yearly regional awards were announced Wednesday.
"This is an honor well deserved," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Toby is one of the top coaches in the nation, and we're very fortunate to have him at the University of Mississippi."
In Hansson's four years, the Rebels have won the overall SEC Championship, back-to-back SEC Tournament titles (2008, 2009) and four straight SEC West titles. In addition, Ole Miss has advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight twice and finished among the nation's top 10 in his first three years.
"I would like to thank the team, because without them this would not be possible. They have had another great season," Hansson said. "They continue to improve with each match, and we are excited about what lies ahead."
The Southern Region is made up of schools from the states of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
Hansson now becomes a finalist for the National Assistant Coach of the Year Award, which will be handed out following the NCAA Team Finals in Athens, Ga.
Ole Miss is in College Station, Texas preparing for their NCAA first round match against TCU. The Rebels and Frogs will square off Friday at 3 p.m.
