5/26/2010 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. - Sophomore Marcel Thiemann of the Ole Miss men's tennis team earned his second win over a top 10 opponent in two weeks to advance to the second round of singles at the NCAA Championships here Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
When Thiemann learned his first round opponent on Tuesday, he found out he would be playing Texas A&M's Austin Krajeck for the second time in two weeks. Thiemann faced the nation's sixth-ranked player during the Rebels' 4-2 loss to the Aggies in the second round of the NCAA Team Championship and defeated him in three sets.
This time Thiemann, ranked No. 33, wouldn't need to rally. He jumped on Krajeck early, winning the first set 6-1 and then broke early in the second set and went on to win 6-4 and move on to the second round in his first NCAA individual appearance.
Thiemann will face Jamere Jenkins in Thursday's second round. He will also team up with his brother, Chris, in the doubles later in the day. The two will meet the No. 4 seeds, Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher of Stanford in the first round.
