Kristi Boxx Advances At NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. - Ole Miss sophomore Kristi Boxx advanced to the second round of singles at the NCAA Championships here Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Boxx, ranked No. 44 in the nation, rallied to defeat 42nd-ranked Martina Pavelec of Wake Forest. The first set was even, with Pavelec winning a close tiebreaker, 7-6(6). Boxx answered, gaining a break late in the second set to win it 6-3. She broke at 2-2 in the third and won 6-2 to move onto the second round for the second year in a row in the NCAA singles competition.

The Grenada, Miss., native will face Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame, a 9-16 seed, in the second round Thursday.
