Marcel Thiemann Through To NCAA Quarterfinals

ATHENS, Ga. - Ole Miss men's tennis sophomore Marcel Thiemann advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship here Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Thiemann, ranked No. 33 in the nation, defeated 12th-ranked Eric Quigley (9-16 seed) of Kentucky in three sets to move onto the final eight in his first ever NCAA appearance. Thiemann led the first set 5-2, before Quigley tied it up at 5-5. The set ultimately went to a tiebreaker, which Thiemann won 7-4.

In the second set, Quigley broke Thiemann once to win it 6-3. In the decisive set, Thiemann broke to go up 4-2 and served out for 6-2 to improve to 2-1 against Quigley this year.

After dropping the regular season meeting to Quigley, Thiemann defeated the Wildcat in straight sets in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinal meeting between the two schools.

Up next for Thiemann is Stanford's Bradley Klahn, who was the 2009 ITA National Rookie of the Year. The two will square off Saturday at 11 a.m.
