OXFORD, Miss. - Dylan Jordan's goal propelled the Red team to a 1-0 victory over the White team as the Ole Miss soccer team scrimmaged Saturday in preparation for the 2010 season.
"We had a good scrimmage," first-year head coach Matthew Mott said. "It was good to see the players in a full-game, 11 v. 11 setting. The girls worked hard. Things are starting to come together. We are eager for the season opener on Friday, but we also have a lot of work left to do."
For Saturday's scrimmage, the Rebels were divided evenly into two sides of 11, and they competed for two 35-minute halves.
Junior goalkeeper Alley Ronaldi pitched a shutout and made several nice saves for the Red team. Mott also noted the quality play of senior midfielder Taylor Cunningham, sophomore defender Alix Hildal and freshman midfielder Mandy McCalla.
"Alley played really well in goal for us," Mott said. "Taylor did a really good job of attacking. She hit the post once and had several nice shots that Alley saved. Alix was excellent in back. Mandy looked very good for a freshman. We had her in an attacking midfielder position, and she was very dangerous."
Ole Miss will continue preseason drills this week in preparation for Friday's season opener vs. Middle Tennessee. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.
