OXFORD, Miss. - Dylan Jordan scored the game-winning goal for the Rebels as the Ole Miss soccer team beat TCU, 1-0, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Ole Miss improved to 4-4-1 on the year while TCU fell to 4-4-1.
Jordan scored an unassisted goal for the Rebels in the 42nd minute. She collected a rebound from her own shot that was blocked and took on two defenders in the six-yard box before beating Horned Frog keeper Kelsey Walters with a close-range shot.
Ole Miss had a good look in the 36th minute as Mandy McCalla flicked on a header from midfield that found Erin Emerson who got in behind the TCU defense. Emerson had a one-on-one with the keeper but her shot was saved.
In the 56th minute, Emerson found McCalla wide on the left. McCalla fired a shot that had the keeper beat but her attempt went high.
Jordan narrowly missed her second goal of the afternoon in the 84th minute as McCalla won a ball in the midfield and found Jordan who had a one-on-one with the keeper but her shot hit the post.
"Dylan's goal was a great individual effort. Overall it was gutsy play from our team on a hot Sunday," first-year head coach Matt Mott said. "Sarah Story is really coming into her own and she's doing really, really well. Dylan works harder than anybody I've ever seen. Overall we had some things we needed to sort out during non-conference play and we did. We have good continuity and we are back at .500 going into SEC play."
Story made five saves in the win and has now posted back-to-back shutouts for the Rebels. TCU outshot Ole Miss 18-15 in the game. Emerson led the Rebels with six shots.
Ole Miss will open SEC play on Friday with a game at Alabama at 7 p.m. followed by a Sunday game at Auburn at 4 p.m. which will be televised by ESPNU.
