CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Ole Miss women's golfer Ashley Lance spent the New Year's holiday in sunny Florida taking home a top 10 finish at the 80th annual Dixie Amateur Championship. The Franklin, Tenn., native shot back-to-back 71s to finish tied for 10th at Lake Heron Golf Club Monday.

Lance finished with a 76-75-71-71--293 total. She was one of seven players to shoot under par on the final day and one of 10 players who made the cut to shoot 70 or 71 in the third round.

"I had never played in this tournament before. It was 80 degrees every day, which was a nice little reprieve from the snow in Nashville. Originally I just wanted to play in a tournament to get the rust off during our 'off-season' and come back to Oxford as prepared as possible for the spring season. The first day I struggled, and it was obvious that I had not played in a while. It was nice to get three more rounds in," Lance said.

Lance had the shot of the day in her first round and perhaps a momentum changer for her in the tournament, when she holed out from 95 yards on her 18th (No. 9) hole.

"I was not playing well at six over and had 95 yards to the hole. I hit it and it one-hopped in for eagle. My momentum completely changed. My dad and I were talking after the round today about how that one shot completely changed everything for me during the tournament. Who knows what would have happened if I had finished 6-over that day."

The Rebels return to the links Feb. 13-15 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
