OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team fell to South Carolina 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 5-10-1 (1-7 SEC) while South Carolina improved to 12-5 (6-2 SEC).
"We didn't take care enough of the little things and in this league you have to be good and you have to be sharp every game," head coach Matt Mott said. "Credit South Carolina, they were very good. We didn't defend the way we needed too and we didn't create enough off the attack."
In the 14th minute, South Carolina's Kayla Grimsley gained possession near midfield and took the ball into the box. She hit a shot, to the left trying to beat Ole Miss goalkeeper Kelly McCormick but McCormick made a diving save to knock the ball out of the box.
South Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute as Grimsley finished a ball played into the box by teammate Elizabeth Sinclair. The Gamecocks went up 2-0 in the 44th minute as Ali Glemser finished a close-range shot off a rebound. Ariane Lukens recorded the assist.
South Carolina added its third goal of the game in the 57th minute as Kortney Rhoades finished a pass off a cross from Maria Petroni.
Erin Emerson had a chance for Ole Miss in the 62nd minute with a shot but her attempt hit the side netting.
The Rebels recorded seven shots in the game, with four on goal, while the Gamecocks recorded 18 with 11 on goal. Mandy McCalla and Dylan Jordan each recorded two shots for Ole Miss. McCormick made eight saves in goal for the Rebels.
Ole Miss will host Vanderbilt Thursday at 7 p.m.
