OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team will travel to Kentucky this weekend for a pair of matches against Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foes. The Rebels will square off against the defending NCAA national champion Kentucky Wildcats on Friday and take on Nebraska on Saturday.
The Wildcats entered this season ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) pre-season poll. Last year, the Rebels set a school record with a team aggregate score of 4654 in a close loss to the eventual national champions.
The Rebels will face the Cornhuskers in Lexington on Saturday. Ole Miss knocked off the Cornhuskers in a tight match last year in Oxford and Nebraska enters the weekend ranked No. 12 in the CRCA pre-season poll.
"We are Kentucky's season opener and even though we haven't seen any team scores from them, we expect it to be a tough match," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "Our team has been working harder than ever, and I feel like we are up for the challenge. Nebraska has already posted some good team scores and we will have to be focused to get the win against them."
The Rebels opened their 2011-2012 campaign with a pair of third place finishes at the Memphis Tiger Invitational and at the Ole Miss Invitational. Ole Miss won a huge match against No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks Oct. 5, and dropped a tight match to GARC opponent Army on Oct. 9.
