Thiemann, Backstrom Advance In Qualifying Draw At ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. -Ole Miss senior Chris Thiemann and sophomore Johan Backstrom won their opening round of qualifying singles at the ITA All-American Championships Monday at the Case Tennis Center.
In the morning, Chris dominated Gijs Linders of Michigan State 6-2, 6-0 to move on to the second round where he will face a familiar foe in Florida's Billy Federhofer.
Later in the afternoon, Backstrom continued his winning ways, coming back to beat Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley of Marquette 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. Backstrom, who won three matches to advance from prequalifying, will face Ben McLachlan of California in the second round.
The only player that didn't advance was junior Jonas Lutjen who lost a tight match, 6-4, 6-4, to Georgia's Hernus Pieters.
