OXFORD, Miss. - Three members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team will be in Sarasota, Fla., this weekend for the Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic.
The senior twin duo of Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann, as well as junior Adrian Forberg Skogeng will represent the Rebels in the field this weekend.
The tournament features players from some of the top college teams in the nation in a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw.
Men's teams include Arizona, Pepperdine, Minnesota, Miami, Florida, Ole Miss, Virginia, Alabama, and Duke.
The twins, ranked No. 2 in doubles, haven't played since the ITA All-American Championships and even then, they only played one match, due to injury. Both are 100 percent and ready to go in the final fall event.
In singles, Marcel is ranked No. 12, with his only action at the All-American. Chris comes in ranked No. 72 with a 2-1 record. Forberg Skogeng owns a 4-3 record.
"This is a good opportunity for the twins to get in some more matches against a good field," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "We are looking forward to closing out the fall with some more wins."
The inaugural event last year was a huge success that there is a waiting list for college teams wanting to get in according to the tournament director. This is the only clay court college tournament in the nation and the only event of its kind that brings men's and women's teams in for one event. New this year, ESPN sportscaster and Lakewood Ranch resident Dick Vitale is adding his name to the tournament.
