OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss sophomores Abbey Stanec and Alivia Yeager recently began competing in the first leg of the U.S. Olympic Rifle Trials held at the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) South Marksmanship Center in Anniston, Ala. The top two finishers in the air rifle will compete for the USA Shooting Team at the 2012 Olympics.

Stanec, a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, fired an aggregate air rifle score of 888.3 and currently sits in sixth place after the first leg of the process, while Yeager, a native of Louisville, Ky., posted a total of 771 and is in 32nd place.

"I am very proud of how Abbey and Alivia competed on a national stage," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "They both represented Ole Miss very well and will have to decide if they want to finish the competition in February."

The second portion of the competition will take place Feb. 22-25 at the North Marksmanship Center in Camp Perry, Ohio.
