OXFORD, Miss. - Georgia Russell has signed an institutional financial aid agreement to join the Ole Miss soccer team starting with the spring semester in January, head coach Matt Mott announced today.

Russell graduated from Tupelo High School in three and a half years and will enroll at Ole Miss in January.

She started every game during her high school career at Tupelo High School and recorded 68 goals and 24 assists. Russell helped Tupelo to a 64-14-4 record over her four seasons and earned several accolades including being named to the All-State First Team, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Player of the Year and two-time team MVP.

"We are thrilled to welcome Georgia to our program," Mott said. "She is one of the best players in Mississippi and the Southeast region. Her commitment to leave high school early to attend Ole Miss is a great testament to her focus and motivation to be a successful student-athlete."

Russell was also a three-year member of Tupelo's track team and was a three-time finalist in the class 6A 300m hurdles. As a junior, she broke the school record in the 300m hurdles, which stood for 15 years, with a time of 46.35.

She was a member of the Mississippi ODP program from 2006-08. Russell has played club soccer for Tupelo FC, Fire and most recently Birmingham United SA where she has led the team in goals and points for the past two years.

In the classroom she is a five-time Rotary Scholar, an ACT Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Russell graduated early from high school with a 4.0 GPA and was fifth in her class of 514.

Her father, Bo, was an All-SEC Defensive Back in 1989 at Mississippi State and is a 1993 graduate of the Ole Miss Law School. She is the fourth generation in her family to attend Ole Miss but the first to do so as an undergraduate.
