OXFORD, Miss. -- With the opening day of the 2011 GARC Championships in the books, the host Ole Miss Rebels look to move up in the standings in the air rifle portion of the tournament, which begins Sunday at 8 a.m. CT at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Admission is free.
The Rebels are in fourth place after the smallbore competition with an aggregate score of 2,299. Abbey Stanec topped the team with a score of 579, which ranked 12th individually, while Keely Stankey is 16th in the field with a 578. Meredith Holman and Kim Coffey each registered scores of 571, while Melissa Quartarone closed out the Rebel smallbore line with a 569.
"Fourth is not where we want to be, but it's a great start," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe, who was named GARC Coach of the Year on Friday. "We've been shooting really well in air rifle in practice and hope to make up ground tomorrow."
With the three top finishers in the smallbore finals, West Virginia tops the team leader board with an aggregate of 2337. Nicco Campriani claimed the individual smallbore crown with a 690.4, ahead of Mountaineer teammates Andy Lamson's 685.7 and Brandi Eskew's 681.7.
