Chris Warren Tabbed Cellular South Howell Trophy Finalist

JACKSON, Miss. - Ole Miss senior point guard Chris Warren has been named one of three finalists for the 2011 Cellular South Howell Trophy, given to the top men's college basketball player in the state of Mississippi.
The Orlando, Fla., native is the only returning finalist among this year's honorees, which include Mississippi State's Dee Bost and Southern Miss' Gary Flowers. Last year, Warren was edged by Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado for the trophy.
Nearing the end of his sensational senior season and Rebel career, Warren ranks second among Southeastern Conference players with his 19.0 scoring average. He leads the nation in free throw percentage (93.7) and ranks among the SEC leaders in assists, 3-pointers, assist-turnover ratio and minutes played. He also gave Ole Miss fans a performance to remember with his game-winning 3-pointer to upset No. 10 Kentucky earlier this season.
Warren ranks third in school history with 1,922 career points and has a chance to become just the fourth player in SEC history to reach 2,000 points and 400 assists. He currently ranks fourth in the Ole Miss record books with 429 assists. He is the school's all-time leader with 317 3-pointers made and ranks second in career free throw percentage (.860), fifth in free throws made (399) and eighth in field goals made (603). He is the SEC's active leader in career points, assists, 3-pointers and 20-point games.
No Ole Miss player has won the award since its inception in 2005. Other Rebels to receive votes to be named finalists this year were Reginald Buckner and Zach Graham.
The recipients of the 2011 awards (Howell Trophy for men, Gillom Trophy for women) will be announced Monday, March 7, in luncheon ceremonies at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson beginning at 11:15 a.m. All seating is $35.
