Millsap Leads Rebel Golfers In Second Round Of LSU Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Haley Millsap shot an even par 72 in the second round of the LSU Classic Saturday to lead the Ole Miss women's golf team at the University Golf Club.
Millsap carded two birdies on her back nine to get to even and jump up to a tie for 29th in the individual standings.
"Haley came back today on a mission to do whatever it took to score and she did," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "Her ball striking was much better and she hit 13 greens in regulation. She had two birdies and many more birdie putts right there wanting to fall. When she finished she was exhausted from her efforts just like you should be, she had left everything she had on the course today."
As a team, the Rebels fared a little better on Saturday posting a 309. They moved up to 13th in the team standings with a 623 total. Natalie Gleadall shot 76 to go with Friday's 74 and is tied for 16th.
"As a team we scored a little better and made up a few shots on the field," Drinkard said. "The University Club until it matures is going to play very tough, and it showed its teeth again today. You have to hit greens, and when you don't you need to miss in areas that leave you with easier shots to convert into pars. Each day we have taken too many big numbers, and we are on a mission to eliminate those tomorrow and convert more pars."
A crowded leaderboard features four teams tied for the lead and two within a shot. Top-ranked Alabama is tied with 26th-ranked Arkansas, seventh-ranked Virginia and 17th-ranked Wake Forest. Fourth-ranked Duke and 18th-ranked Tennessee are tied for fifth at 602.
The final round begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the calendar.
