OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team will face intrastate rival Mississippi State in a spring exhibition match Saturday at 7 p.m. at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland, Miss.
Admission to the match is free. In addition to the Ole Miss/State game, there is also a youth club tournament that will be taking place during the day.
The Rebel will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Bulldogs to end the regular-season in 2010.
"We have been working really hard and the team is at a good fitness level," second-year head coach Matt Mott said. "We are looking for a good performance Saturday. Both of these teams are quality teams and both teams have good players returning."
Among those playing for the Rebels Saturday will be top returners: Dylan Jordan, the team-leader from 2010 in goals (7) and points (16); Erin Emerson, who recorded three goals and three assists last season; Alix Hildal, an SEC Offensive Player of the Week who recorded 13 point in 2010 and Mandy McCalla who finished her first year at Ole Miss second on the team in points (14) and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
"Dylan is at a good fitness level and is playing very well as is Mandy. Both have made great strides so we will be strong in the midfield," Mott said. "Erin has played very well this spring and is scoring goals in training. Alix has made a very good transition from center back to a more attacking role.
"We have shifted a couple people around position-wise this spring and everybody has bought into this and is working hard," Mott said.
After Saturday's match, Ole Miss will have five remaining spring matches including four homes games. The Rebels will host Tennessee Martin on April 2 at 10 a.m. and will take on Arkansas State at 2 p.m. Ole Miss will closeout its spring schedule at home hosting Memphis on April 15 at 7 p.m. and the Alumni Game on April 16 at 2 p.m.
