Randolph Ties For Third At Hootie @ Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. - Ole Miss men's golfer Jonathan Randolph tied for third at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate here Tuesday at Bulls Bay with a 68-69-72-209, to lead the Rebels.
Randolph came into the final round with a one shot lead over two players and a two shot advantage over five others. Unfortunately he couldn't get the putter going. The Brandon, Miss., native wound up two shots behind N.C. State's Mitchell Sutton and LSU's Andrew Loupe. Randolph did however earn his 14th career top-five and 20th career top-10 finish.
The Rebels as a team finished ninth in the 15-team field, which included seven Top 25 teams. A final round 294 left them with a total of 872. Junior Joe David ended up in 16th with a 70-72-72-214.
"Jonathan got close to winning again. He just didn't make some of the putts he wanted to make," head coach Ernest Ross said. "As a team I am frustrated because we continue to make the same mistakes. Our lag putting was not sharp, and we hit too many balls in penalty situations. We don't have long before our next event. As a coach I will continue to work on improving our skills."
LSU shot an even par 284 in the final round and edged defending NCAA Champion Augusta State by one with an 849. Augusta State carded a 3-over 287 to finish at 850. Auburn and Duke tied for third at 855, and Wake Forest, Texas A&M and N.C. State tied for fifth at 856.
As Coach Ross alluded to in his comments, the Rebels have a quick turnaround. They will host the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate April 4-5 at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
