RUSTON, La. - Ole Miss assistant and former point guard Michael White has been named the head men's basketball coach at Louisiana Tech, the school announced Wednesday.

As the Rebels' top assistant over the last five years, White helped guide Ole Miss to two Southeastern Conference Western Division titles, four postseason appearances and four 20-win seasons. He was part of a staff that became the first in school history to achieve four 20-win seasons and the second to make earn postseason berths. The Rebels' 105 wins is the most by an Ole Miss coaching staff in a five-year span.

"I am excited for Mike and even more excited for Louisiana Tech," Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Mike, who was a coach on the floor during his time as a player at Ole Miss and has continued to develop as a coach and contribute to our success over the five seasons that we've worked together. I wish him all the best in his new role. I think Louisiana Tech has made a great choice."

Working with the Rebel guards, White tutored players like Chris Warren and Terrico White to a number of accolades. In fact, Ole Miss is tied with Florida and Kentucky for the most All-SEC guards in the last five years with five.

After the 2008-09 season, White was named a finalist for BasketballScoop.com's Coaches Award, honoring the top assistants in the college game. White was an assistant at Ole Miss for the last seven seasons. His coaching career began when he was named an assistant at Jacksonville State in 2001 before being promoted to associate head coach for the Gamecocks in 2004.

As a four-year starting point guard for the Rebels from 1995-99, White helped the team to back-to-back SEC West titles and three straight NCAA Tournament berths, including the Rebels' first-ever tournament win in 1999.
