OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior outfielder Amanda Hutcheson has been named to the Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team for her off-the-field work, the league office announced on Friday.

Hutcheson has been heavily involved in the Oxford and Ole Miss communities for the past three years. She has participated in ‘Reading with the Rebels’ and National Student-Athlete Day activities with Oxford-area elementary students. Along with other members of the Ole Miss softball team, Hutcheson organized a clinic for patients at the North Mississippi Regional Health Center.

A native of Loganville, Ga., Hutcheson helped organize “Rebel Reruns”, which collected shoes for youth in Haiti and Kenya this past year. She also participated in the “SEC Together We CAN Food Drive”to gather food for needy families in the Oxford area.

Hutcheson and the other members of the softball team visited Le Bonheur and St. Jude Children’s Hospital to see the patients and read and play with the children earlier this year. She and her teammates also adopted a young St. Jude patient, Hanley Hines, as an official member of the Ole Miss softball team, presented Haley with her own jersey and locker and had her throw out the first pitch at a game last season.

She also helped organize “Kids Take Over The Park Day” in support of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for the Rebels’ April 23 game against LSU. Children volunteered for various jobs around the ballpark, including bat boy, cheerleader and field crew, and fans donated toys and items of need for the children of Le Bonheur.

Hutcheson participated in the “More Than A Meal” program where she served dinner and mentored local at-risk children. She also volunteered at a local retirement community and helped care for animals at the local Humane Society.

In the classroom, Hutcheson is a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee and has been named to the UMAA Honor Roll, the SEC Honor Roll and the University’s Chancellor’s List.

The Southeastern Conference sponsors community service teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community in superior service efforts.
