OXFORD, Miss. - Robi Coker has been promoted to the position of Coordinator of Basketball Operations for the Ole Miss men's program, head coach Andy Kennedy announced Wednesday.
Coker, who has served four years as the team's coordinator of video services, will handle a variety of duties within the program, including player development, travel arrangements, coordinating camps, scheduling and scouting.
"Robi has been in the program for four seasons and has done an outstanding job in his support role," Kennedy said. "With his elevation to the director of operations position, Robi's contributions to our program will be magnified."
A 2005 graduate of Jacksonville State University, Coker joined the Rebel staff in 2006 and spent one season in Oxford before taking the head coaching position at Clay-Chalkville High School in Pinson, Ala. After a successful one-year stint there, he returned to Ole Miss for the 2008-09 season. He has handled the team's film exchange and assisted in academics, team travel and recruiting during his time on Kennedy's staff.
The Skirum, Ala., native was head manager and film coordinator at Jacksonville State while pursuing his education degree. He has also coached at Geraldine High School and Crossville High School in Alabama. He was a two-time all-area selection in both basketball and football during his prep days at Crossville.
Coker is married to the former Melissa Norrell of Geraldine, Ala. Their first daughter, Lily Kate, was born on May 24, 2011.
The coordinator of basketball operations position was previously held by Bill Armstrong, who was named an assistant coach in April.
"Coach Kennedy has been very loyal to my family and me, and we're excited about this new opportunity," Coker said. "I'm proud of our accomplishments over the past five years and look forward to being a part of future successes. Assisting Bill for four years and working daily with our guys in my previous role will help make this transition seamless."
