Gleadall Leads Rebels On Day One of Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior Natalie Gleadall fired a team-best 1-over 73 to move into a tie for 10th place at the conclusion of the first round of the All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.
It was a tough day overall for the Rebels, though, as they finished with a 310 for the round and sit in 14th place in the team standings.
"Not quite the way we envisioned our score today, however our goals remain the same and that is to focus on the process and let the outcome take care of itself," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "Overall as a team tomorrow we need to hit more greens take the pressure off our short game and to make more putts."
Sounds simple and it is when you keep your perspective simple. When we let a shot get away from us that's the time to step back, take a breath and slow down time just a bit to get our focus back to the present shot.
Defending tournament champion No. 4 Southern Cal leads the 15-team field after shooting a 293 to take a one-stroke lead over No. 20 Oregon.
Oregon's Cali Hipp turned in the best individual round, shooting a 3-under 69.
Gleadall got off to a rough start, bogeying three of her first four holes. The Stratford, Ontario native would then rebound and cruise through the final 14 holes, rolling in birdies on two and shooting a par on the others to draw within four strokes of Hipp for the individual lead.
"Natalie turned in a nice round today. She started off with some bogeys then got it turned around finishing 2 under par for the final 14 holes," Drinkard said.
Junior Haley Sanders shot a 5-over 77, and sits three strokes back from the top-20.
"Haley Sanders and Taelor Rubin also struck the ball well except for a couple of shots. Look for them along with Haley Millsap and Ashley to bounce back tomorrow."
Action will continue tomorrow with the second round of play in New Orleans. Fans can follow along with live scoring at www.OleMissSports.com. Also follow the Rebels on twitter at @OleMissWGolf and on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/OleMissWGolf.
