Millsap, Rebels Take Fourth Place In Maui

MAUI, HAWAII - Senior Haley Millsap shot a 73 in the final round to earn her first career top-five finish, as the Ole Miss women's golf team finished in fourth place at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on Tuesday.
The Rebels shot a 308 for the day to pick up their best finish of the 2011-12 season. It was also the first time that the Rebels had three players finish inside the top-20, as Ericka Schneider and Natalie Gleadall took 15th and 18th place, respectively.
The Rebels beat a pair of top-25 squads, in No. 19 Pepperdine and No. 22 Oregon.
"We have had a great trip to Maui and really played well our first two rounds," said Ole Miss head coach Michele Drinkard. "As a team it was nice to beat No. 19 and No. 22. It shows this team that we can compete with anybody. We need to do a better job with our short game to make our pars and to stay focused on the greens when putts aren't falling."
No. 14 Colorado bested conference-mate No. 12 Cal by one stroke to take the tournament championship.
Like the previous two rounds, Millsap was strong on the 10-18 holes and rolled in three birdies for the day to earn a 1-over for the round. The Pace, Fla., native finished at 221-a season-best 54-hole score-to take fourth place.
"She [Millsap] stayed with her game and took advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves," said Drinkard. "She also made some great bogeys when she did find a hazard. Trade winds really picked up today, and the conditions were hard to control shots. She hung tough all the way through her last hole."
Schneider also earned her best finish as a Rebel, coming in 15th after shooting a 78 Tuesday.
Senior Natalie Gleadall picked up her second top-20 finish of the season. Gleadall shot an even-par through the first 13 holes before going into the clubhouse with a 77.
