No. 25 Rebels To Host Top 10 Teams

OXFORD, Miss. - Kick off spring break at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center/Galtney Courts this weekend as the No. 25 nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team welcomes No. 8 Tennessee and No. 7 Georgia.
The first 200 fans to Friday's match against Tennessee at 3 p.m. will receive a free collector's poster of senior Kristi Boxx. In case of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Gillom Sports Center.
"It's an exciting weekend for us with two good teams coming in here," head coach Mark Beyers said. We're happy to be at home again. We would love to duplicate two years ago when we were able to go 2-0 against them. It will be two great matches, and we'll be ready. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll be able to play outside."
The Rebels enter the weekend with an 8-5 overall record, 1-1 in the SEC. They are coming off a split on the opening weekend of SEC play, shutting out Auburn 7-0 before falling to then No. 25 Alabama 5-2.
Boxx made history against Alabama, becoming the all-time leader in career doubles wins at Ole Miss with 103. She passed former three-time All-American Courtenay Chapman. She teams with fellow senior Abby Guthrie for a No. 7 national ranking and a 10-1 record at No. 1 doubles. Boxx is also ranked No. 22 in singles with a 17-7 overall record, 7-4 at No. 1 singles.
Last week's SEC Freshman of the Week, Julia Jones, improved to 9-2 in dual matches, including 4-0 at No. 4 singles.
Tennessee comes into the weekend at 10-4, 1-1 in the SEC. They split their opening weekend as well, falling to No. 2 Florida 7-0 and defeating No. 22 South Carolina 4-3. Three of Tennessee's four losses have come to teams that are currently ranked in the top six (Florida-2, USC-4 and Virginia-6).
The Lady Vols are led by sophomore Brynn Boren who is ranked No. 35 in the nation with a 4-3 record at No. 1 singles.
On Sunday, Ole Miss faces No. 7 Georgia at 1 p.m. Georgia brings an 11-1 overall record, 1-1 to the state of Mississippi. The Bulldogs are led by Chelsey Gullickson, who is ranked No. 11 with a 9-4 record at No. 1 singles.
