OXFORD, Miss. - Three Ole Miss women's golfers, senior Ericka Schneider, junior Kathryn Fowler and sophomore Alison Hovatter, will complete in the inaugural Women's Southeastern Challenge Matches held at The Country Club of Ocala in Ocala, Fla., August 13 -14.
Schneider will be playing for the Florida team, while Folwer will play for Georgia and Hovatter will play for Alabama.
"It's such an honor to be chosen to represent my state. I have played for Georgia in the GA/FL matches for the last four years," Fowler said. "The Southeastern Challenge match is new this year, but the newest thing to me is competing against teammates from the other states. No matter what the outcome, Ole Miss will be well represented and a Rebel will be on the winning team."
"I am really looking forward to playing in this tournament. It will be a great experience playing on a team representing my state," Schneider said. "Two of my teammates are playing each for a different state. I am excited to see them and can't wait for the great competition."
"It is truly is a dream come true for me to represent my home state of Alabama in the Southeastern Challenge Cup," Hovatter said. "We've got a great team and I can't wait to have fun this week!"
This competition, which will replace the biennial Georgia-Florida Women's Team Matches, will feature the top female amateurs from Georgia, Florida and Alabama competing over two days. The first day will include two sessions: morning four-ball matches and afternoon foursome (alternate shot) matches. The second day will have one session of 12 total single matches, with a player from each association in each match, competing against one another (three-ball match).
Each state has an invitation-only 12-player team. The team breakdown is as follows:
a) "Amateur Division" - eight members of any age, with a maximum of two members under the age of 18
b) "Senior Amateur Division" - four members who must be 50 years of age or older.
