Nov. 4, 2013
KAUAI,
The Rebels opened up with a 2-under par team score of 286 in the first round, aided by Gamble and West, who are both tied for 21st after the first round. Gamble had an eagle and three birdies, while West notched four birdies.
After day one, Ole Miss is in ninth place out of 18 teams. Cal State Fullerton is in first place, shooting a team score of 16-under 272.
"We just didn't hit enough irons close to the hole," head coach Ernest Ross said. "The winds were fairly calm and the conditions were ripe for shooting under par. We have to play more agressively tomorrow."
Junior Blake Morris, who is tied for 39th, shot an even par opening round of 72 that included three birdies. Junior Joe Lewis fired a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 56th. Freshman Ben Wolcott is tied for 75th place after finishing the day with a 4-over 76.
The second round of the Princeton Warrior Classic will tee off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. HST.
