Newton Fires Career-Best Round To Lead Ole Miss

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Freshman Abby Newton fired a career-best 69 in the afternoon round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii Tuesday at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
Newton's 69 ties for the lowest score from an Ole Miss player this year. Senior Haley Sanders carded a 69 at the UNC Tar Heel Invite in October.
After 36 holes of play, Newton is tied for second in the 93-player field with a 1-under 143 (74-69-143). She moved up from 14th place after round one. As a team, Ole Miss moved up two spots from the morning round to the afternoon round as the team sits in a tie for fifth out of 16 teams (306-300-606).
Arizona leads the field heading into the final round today, with a 6-over 582.
Kathryn Fowler, who is competing as an individual this tournament, is tied for eighth, carding a three-over 147 (74-73-147). Ericka Schneider and Stani Schiavone are each tied for 28th. Schnieder carded a 10-over 154 (76-78-154) while Schiavone also carded a 10-over 154 (80-74-154).
The Rebels will play the final round in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational today. Teams will tee off at 1 p.m. CT / 8 a.m. HT. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
