OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's rifle team used several standout performances to post a season-high 4637 aggregate score against No. 5 Nebraska and No. 4 Jacksonville State here Sunday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
The Rebels trailed the Cornhuskers by 17 after smallbore, but made up ground in air, shooting a 2348 to Nebraska's 2337. Jacksonville State shot a 4655, including a 2297 in smallbore and a 2358 in air rifle.
"I'm happy with how the team performed today," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "Almost everyone shot above their averages for this match. I can see the momentum building. We had at least half of the team shoot a personal best and or a career best. That tells me that we are doing the right things and going in the right direction. I'm very blessed with such hard workers."
Senior Alivia Yeager shot a season-high 577 in smallbore to lead the Rebels there. She finished with a season-high aggregate of 1157. Freshman Alison Weisz tied her season-best with a 591 in air rifle. Weisz with a 567 in smallbore eclipsed her season average in aggregate with a season-high total of 1158. Senior Abbey Stanec scored above her average in total aggregate with an 1165.
The Rebels are back in action next Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Withrow Invitational hosted by Murray State.
