Men's Tennis Heads to USTA/ITA Regionals

OXFORD, Miss. - A berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships will be on the line this weekend as the Ole Miss Men's Tennis team heads to Auburn, Alabama to compete in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Action begins Thursday at 8:30 a.m. CT. from the Yarbrough Tennis Center. The finals will place Monday at 9 a.m.
WHO WILL BE THERE …
Participating teams are: Auburn, Alabama, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
WHAT'S AT STAKE …
The winner of the singles and doubles titles will earn a berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships to be held Nov. 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
REBEL PARTICIPANTS …
The Rebels will send the entire team to Auburn, led by senior William Kallberg and junior Stefan Lindmark. Joining them will be juniors Joe Rogers and Zach Wilder, sophomores Vinod Gowda and Ricardo Jorge and freshmen Zvonimir Babic and Gustav Hansson.
RECENT SUCCESS AT SOUTHERN REGIONALS …
Ole Miss has dominated the tournament in recent years. Nik Scholtz won the singles title in 2012 and reached the finals in 2013. William Kallberg and Stefan Lindmark won the doubles title in 2013. In 2010, Tucker Vorster took the singles title and All-American twins Chris Thiemann and Marcel Thiemann won doubles. Johan Backstrom and former All-American Jonas Lutjen followed up with the doubles title in 2011.
