Rebel Netters Advance at USTA/ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. - Day one of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships came to a close for the Ole Miss Men's Tennis team Thursday with four players reaching the third round of singles and three doubles teams in the second round at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Freshman Zvonimir Babic and junior Joe Rogers teamed up to down Zach Barnes and Viboosh Chandrasekar of Auburn 8-2 in the first round. Senior William Kallberg and freshman Gustav Hansson had a first round bye, as did Stefan Lindmark and Ricardo Jorge. Lindmark and Jorge, seeded No. 5, reached the semifinals at the SEC Fall Classic in their first tournament together. This will be the first tournament for Kallberg and Hansson, both of Sweden, to play together.
In singles, Kallberg, Lindmark, Hansson and Jorge all advanced to the third round with a win. After a first round bye, Kallberg downed Max Sinn of Nicholls State 6-2, 6-2. He will face Edgar Lopez of Louisiana-Lafayette Friday.
Lindmark also had a first round bye and then took out LSU's Harrison Kennedy 7-5, 6-4. He will meet Gabriel Dias of Troy in the third round.
Hansson had a first round bye as well, and then defeated LSU's Tam Trinh 6-3, 6-1. He will play Marko Krickovic in the third round.
Jorge defeated Jake Faundez of Samford 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and then beat Andrew Goodwin of Alabama by the same score. He will face Daniel Leitner of South Alabama in the third round.
