LEXINGTON, Ky. - It was a tough night on the pitch for the Rebels as Ole Miss (7-4-4, 2-2-3 SEC) fell on the road at Kentucky (9-5-0, 4-3-0 SEC) by a score of 3-0 on Friday night.

The Rebels found themselves down early in the match as Kentucky scored twice in the first half before adding a third goal in the second half on the way to the win. It marked the first time the Rebels had lost to the Wildcats since the 2007 season.

"We kind of ran into a buzz saw tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Matthew Mott. "Kentucky came out flying and we weren't able to handle their pressure early. They scored a good goal early and then got a second one before halftime. We came out and fought a lot harder in the second half to try to get ourselves back into it, but they got the third goal following a corner kick and kind of ended the game at that point."

Kentucky got on the board first, scoring its first goal against the Rebels since the 2011 season when the Wildcats forced a turnover in their own defensive third and turned for a counter. Zoe Swift took the long pass from Jade Klump on the far side and beat the Rebel keeper one-on-one for the goal in the 13th minute, firing her shot across to the near post and into the net.

The Wildcats added to the lead in the 25th minute when Courtney Raetzman fired a shot from the top of the box 22 yards out and got it past the Rebel keeper who was shielded by a defender. The goal gave Kentucky a 2-0 lead on the Rebels.

The scoring continued for the Wildcats in the second half when Cara Ledman snuck one across the line to put Kentucky on top 3-0. After a couple of dangerous possessions, the Rebels looked to clear the ball, but Ledman gathered it 25 yards out and fired a shot at the goal. The shot hit the crossbar and deflected down across the line to give the home team the three-goal lead in the 61st minute.

Ole Miss looked to get on the board with a couple of dangerous possessions down the stretch, but each attempt was turned away by the Wildcat defense as the Rebels fell in the contest without finding the net for only the third time this season.

The Rebels will return to action on Sunday afternoon, facing off against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 12 p.m. CT on the SEC Network + digital platform.
