Rebels Conclude Play at USTA/ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. - The Ole Miss Men's Tennis team concluded play at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships Sunday in the semifinals of singles and doubles at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
In the singles semifinals, junior Stefan Lindmark dropped a hard-fought three-set match to Auburn's Maxime Hinnasdaels. Lindmark was able to get the break late in the first set and win it 7-5. Hinnasdaels broke early in the second set and went on to take it 6-2 to square the match. The third set was tied at 3-3, but Hinnasdaels won the final three games for 6-3 to advance to the final.
It marked the third year in a row and fourth time in the last five years for the Rebels to have player reach the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Regionals.
Later in the afternoon, senior William Kallberg and freshman Gustav Hansson faced Mississippi State's Florian Lakat and Julian Cash in the best of three doubles semifinals. The MSU duo won a close first set 7-5 and then took the second set 6-3 to advance to the final.
"Today was a tough day where we were not able to play our best tennis," head coach Toby Hansson said. "Stefan was struggling to find his game but kept fighting to the last point. Willie and Gustav showed that they can play at a high level but they were not able to get the win. Overall I see an improvement from the previous tournaments. We are heading in the right direction."
That concludes the collegiate fall season for the Rebels, however some members of the team will compete in USTA Pro Circuit events in November.
