Rebels to Host Shoot Pink Match
10/3/2014 | Rifle
OXFORD, Miss. - Wednesday marked the beginning of breast cancer awareness month, and to raise awareness for the cause, the Ole Miss Rifle team will be hosting its second annual "Shoot Pink" match on Saturday. The Ole Miss Invitational will be held at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center located off Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue and begins at 9 a.m.
Before hosting their annual "Shoot Pink" match, the Rebels headed north Thursday morning to shoot in the Memphis Invitational.
"We are super excited to start the season with this new team," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "I have been so impressed with the work ethic in training with this group. The team may be young, but we have lots of experience and intend to let that show in these beginning matches."
Leading the Rebels this year is sophomore Alison Weisz (Belgrade, Montana). In 2014, she became the first freshman in Ole Miss Rifle history to qualify for the NCAA Championships, earning a spot in air rifle and placed 16th. Weisz also became the first freshman in program history to earn All-GARC honors, receiving honorable mention status in air rifle.
Weisz will be on the line Saturday morning with fellow sophomore Nicolle Thiry and freshmen Shelby Sandstrom, Jessica Haig and Kristyn Trump.
For those looking to avoid the madness that will be taking place in The Grove, come out and show support for the Rebel rifle team.
Free t-shirts will be given out during the match, and fans will receive 20 Rebel Rewards points.
