MEET THE PRESS: Matt Mott Monday Press Conference
10/6/2014 | Soccer
Ole Miss head coach Matthew Mott met with members of the media Monday to talk about his team's performance at Auburn and Alabama this past weekend.
"Thanks for coming everyone. Obviously it was a great weekend for Ole Miss. We traveled to Auburn on Friday night. It was a very good match. We ended up drawing 2-2. Auburn took the lead in the first half. Sam Sanders, one of our center backs, had an injury. This made us adjust quite a few things in the back. We went into half time feeling pretty good about how we had played. We came back the second half and scored a goal. Late in the game, with about 10 minutes to go, they scored a goal on a corner kick. Then, with three minutes to go, Forbis scored a brilliant goal to get us to 2-2. We went into overtime and walked away with a draw."
"Saturday morning we headed to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama on Sunday. The team got to watch us play some college football and College Gameday on the bus. They were very excited and enjoyed watching that. We got to Tuscaloosa and practiced Saturday, and then played Alabama on Sunday afternoon. We beat them 1-0 on a goal by Jennifer Miller. There was just a fantastic defensive effort by our team against a very good Alabama team. At that point Alabama was 2-1-1 in the league. We really battled them. It was a great performance by our team."
"Two players I have not mentioned that I need to are Maddie Friedmann and Jessica Hiskey, two of our juniors. They have played every minute. Friedmann is just a warrior on the back for us. She is extremely tough and really battled for us. Hiskey just sets the tone at midfield. They do not show up on the stat sheet, but they are really great players for us and have done such a good job leading our team defensively."
"Kelly McCormick tied the school records for shutouts. I believe that is the last record she does not hold. One more shutout in her senior year and she will have it. I am really happy with our team. We are sitting in fifth place in the league as we go into a big break. We get this next week off. It will be a much-needed break to heal and freshen up before a five-game stretch. In a week from Friday we head to Kentucky and South Carolina."
