Rebel Netters Successful at ITA All-American Qualifying
9/29/2014 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. - Ole Miss Men's Tennis players Stefan Lindmark and William Kallberg did what they've done many times before in a Rebel uniform, as they rallied to win their opening round matches in qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships Monday.
Lindmark started the day with a gutty performance against Florida's Maxx Lipman, ranked No. 100 in the nation. After dropping the first set 6-2, Lindmark took the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6(5) and then held on in the third 6-4 to clinch the match. He will face Nicolas Alvarez of Duke in the second round Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Later in the afternoon, Kallberg took to the courts against Middle Tennessee's Ettore Zito. The 60th-ranked Blue Raider grabbed the first set 7-5, but Kallberg, ranked No. 105, answered the bell, winning the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3 to join Lindmark in the second round. Kallberg will face Robert Kelly of North Carolina Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
"Well done by both Stefan and William," head coach Toby Hansson said. "They both showed great resiliency and were determined to get the win."
In addition to their singles matches tomorrow, Lindmark and Kallberg will compete in doubles qualifying. Lindmark is paired with freshman Gustav Hansson against Cale Hammond and Raphael Hemmeler of Duke. Kallberg will pair with Ricardo Jorge in an All-SEC affair against the Georgia tandem of Paul Oosterbaan and Ben Wagland.
