Weisz Sets School Record in Smallbore

MURRAY, Ky. - Ole Miss sophomore Alison Weisz set the school record in smallbore Saturday with a 589 at the Withrow Invitational, to lead the Rebels to a season-high 2287 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
Weisz broke the previous record of 587, held by former Rebels Samantha Leach and Jennifer Lorenzen. Jessica Haig posted a personal best of 571 in smallbore. Haig also led the Rebels in air rifle with a personal best of 589.
Unfortunately, the Rebels were not able to carry the momentum over into air rifle, shooting a 2313 for a total aggregate of 4600, third best on the season.
Memphis, ranked No. 9, finished with a 2307 in smallbore to lead by 20 as the teams headed into air rifle. The Tigers shot a 2344 in air for a total aggregate of 4651.They were led by Amy Fister's 582 in smallbore and Beth Lee's 589 in air.
"We are still in our stride and keeping our pace," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "We are still not where we want to be but we are heading in that direction. We missed an opportunity as a team to capitalize on the PR's in smallbore, but I am proud of our overall performance."
The Rebels are off next weekend, before hosting Akron Feb. 7 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
