Recap

Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy

On the game…
"(Jarvis Summers) was much more aggressive (in the second half). He got to the foul line 15 times. We were having our struggles from the parameter. The way we get Jarvis angles is off a ball screen. They weren't allowing him to get to the screen and were pushing him back to the baseline. We were giving into that early. In the second half, we attacked it. When we attacked it and stayed strong on that second dribble, the sea parted for us. We were able to get it to the basket and make a couple layups to settle us down. At the end, we finally made heady plays. One of the things I thought was a strength of our group was our experience. We haven't played that experienced until the last two games down the stretch. We got an angle, shot faked and leaned in to get a guy off balance. We continue to make free throws at a very efficient rate. I want to give Mississippi State a lot of credit. They played exceptionally hard. Very seldom do you win basketball games in the SEC when you get outrebounded. This is the first time we've been outrebounded in quite some time. They outrebounded us, shot 56 percent from the floor and almost 50 percent from 3. I give our guys credit for staying in the fight and making enough plays to survive."

On Anthony Perez...
"He did great things for us. Those two 3s were huge. They gave us the first separation and put a little game pressure on them. In the Florida game, we were really searching. Our frontcourt wasn't being as productive, and I went to him because I've seen what he can do. He was a valuable part of last year's team. He stepped up and made some plays. He led us in rebounding in 12 minutes of action, which tells me he was active. I gave him an opportunity today, and he took advantage of it."

On Terence Smith...
"It took him a little while to find his groove. His role is much different than the one he had at UT-Martin. He started against SEMO when Jarvis was out with back spasms and had a season-high 16 points. Since that game, he's shooting 57 percent from three, over 50 percent from the floor and has a four-to-one assist to turnover rate. I've tried to be conscious of getting him more minutes. (Stefan) Moody was struggling tonight and forcing some action. Down the stretch, we went with Terence, and he responded.
