Lindmark Reaches Consolation Semis at All-American

TULSA, Okla. - After a tough opening match at the ITA All-American Championships, Ole Miss men's tennis senior Stefan Lindmark has found his groove, winning three straight matches, including twice on Saturday, to reach the semifinals of the consolation draw.
The winner of the consolation draw will also receive a bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships in November.
On Friday rain delayed the start of play, but it did not delay Lindmark's play, as he took out Michael Rinaldi of Florida State 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of consolation.
In the round of 16 Saturday, Lindmark defeated 40th-ranked Ben Lott of Drake in straight sets. He gained a break to start the match and never looked back in the first set, winning it 6-2. At 3-3 in the second set, Lindmark broke and held serve twice to clinch the match 6-4.
After about an hour break, Lindmark took to the courts again to face Virginia Tech's Edoardo Tessaro in the quarterfinals. Lindmark dropped the first set 6-3, but battled back to win a close tiebreak in the second set. Lindmark faced a match point in the tiebreaker down 5-6, but he won two straight points to go up 7-6. The two traded points again, but at 9-9, Lindmark won the final two points to force a deciding set.
With momentum squarely on his side, Lindmark took care of Tessaro quickly in the third set, winning it 6-2.
"Stefan played two very solid matches today against quality opponents," head coach Toby Hansson said. "In the second match the level was very high, especially in the last two sets. He was able to find a way to win the tiebreaker 11-9 after having saved match points. We are looking forward to watching Stefan compete again tomorrow."
Lindmark will face 34th-ranked Sam Shropshire of Northwestern in the semifinals Sunday.
