Rebels Head to Tuscaloosa for Regionals

OXFORD, Miss. - A spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships will be on the line this weekend, as the Ole Miss men's tennis team heads to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
Action begins Thursday from the University of Alabama Tennis Center. The finals will take place Monday.
The Competition
Participating teams include: Alabama, Auburn, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
What's at Stake
The winner of the singles and doubles titles will earn a berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships to be held Nov. 12-15 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center
Rebel Participants
The Rebels will send the entire team to Tuscaloosa, minus senior Stefan Lindmark who just returned from the ITA All-American. Joining juniors Vinod Gowda and Ricardo Jorge will be sophomores Zvonimir Babic, Grey Hamilton and Gustav Hansson and freshmen Fabian Fallert, Filip Kraljevic and Robert Mounger.
Recent Success at Regionals
Ole Miss has had success in the tournament in recent years. Nik Scholtz won the singles title in 2012 and reached the finals in 2013. William Kallberg and Stefan Lindmark won the doubles title in 2013. In 2010, Tucker Vorster took the singles title and All-American twins Chris Thiemann and Marcel Thiemann won doubles. Johan Backstrom and former All-American Jonas Lutjen followed up with the doubles title in 2011.

"This is one of the top events we play in the fall, and we always look forward to it every year," Hansson said. "The guys have been working hard in practice, and we are excited to play against top competition this weekend."
