Ole Miss Head Coach Matthew Mott met with members of the media on Monday as part of his weekly press conference. Coach Mott discussed the Rebels' victory over No. 10 Auburn, the second straight win over a top-10 team, while also looking ahead to road matchups against Tennessee and Texas A&M.
Opening Statement....
"Congratulations to Coach (Steven) McRoberts on the big win last night. I was having dinner last night, and it is just awesome that we are able to turn on our phones and watch SEC Network and cheer while eating at one of our restaurants around town. So, congratulations to those guys on the big win against Arkansas. Certainly it was an exciting match for us on Friday night against Auburn. It was a difficult game early on. I thought Auburn really had control of the game for the first 25-30 minutes. We tried to get our foot on the ball, and then we got the ball forward, but the keeper made a great save. A minute later, we had a serve from Bethany Bunker, who was really due a goal, and scored that goal to get us a 1-0 lead at halftime. We came out in the second half and probably scored the best goal of our season with Addie Forbus, who scored off a header on a cross from Gretchen Harknett. It was set up by Jennifer Miller, so a great two-assist goal for us on that one. That got us a 2-0 lead. Defensively, we were great the rest of the way. I thought Marnie Merritt was excellent in goal. Jessica Hiskey, Maddie Friedmann, and Liza Harbin did well. We moved Bethany Bunker back there for a while. She was battling some sickness, and it was hard for her to go. I was happy with the team. That puts us at 15 points and we are one point out of first place in the league, but there is six of us up there. There are three teams with 16 points and three with 15. We're one of those with 15. There are three big games left in the regular season. We go on the road to play Tennessee Friday night, and we head to College Station on Sunday to play Texas A&M. So a big road trip for us, but the team is in a good spot. We are getting really good play all over the park. Jenn Miller is one I don't really talk about much. She's really running things for us in the midfield. She doesn't get a lot of accolades, but she has been excellent for us this year. We're happy where we are, and we have three games left before we head into postseason play."
