Rebels Finish Fourth at Erin Hill Intercollegiate

ERIN, Wis. - Junior Ben Wolcott fired a 4-under par 68 Tuesday to lead Ole Miss in the final round of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, as the Rebels earned their first top-five team finish of the season.
Ole Miss finished fourth in the team standings with a three-round score of 868 at the Erin Hills Golf Course, host of the 2017 U.S. Open. The Rebels finished behind champion SMU, who posted a team final score of 851, Oklahoma State and UCLA.
"Overall, it was a solid tournament for our team," said Rebel head coach Chris Malloy. "We have a lot of good things that we can build on from this week. I really liked that each of our guys competed and were in the round today. This was certainly a step in the right direction. We need to work hard over the next week and be ready to compete in a very strong field at the U.S. Collegiate."
Wolcott, a Dickson, Tennessee native, carded three birdies in a row on the back nine Tuesday en route to a third-round 68 and finished the tournament in a tie for 19th with a three-day score of 218. Freshman Braden Thornberry recorded his first top-10 finish of his collegiate career, after tallying three birdies in the final round on the way to a 4-over 76. He finished the tournament in a tie for eighth with a three-round score of 215.
Junior Noah West found the top-25 for the third tournament in a row, finished in a tie for 14th with an overall score of even-par 216 after shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round. Freshman Beau Briggs and senior Forrest Gamble both also carded a 2-over 74 in the final round. Briggs finished in a tie for 28th with an overall score of 222 for the tournament, while Gamble placed 60th with a final score of 234.
