JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - With winter weather all around the South, the No. 17 Ole Miss rifle team headed to Alabama to shoot its NCAA qualifier Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range on the campus of Jacksonville State University. The Rebels were originally scheduled to their qualifier in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Rebels finished with a 4585 aggregate. Sophomore Alison Weisz and freshman Jessica Haig led the Rebels, who shot 2279 in smallbore and 2306 in air rifle, respectively.
Weisz posted her second best score of the year in smallbore with a 583, including a perfect 200 in prone. Haig fired a 586 in air rifle to lead all Rebel shooters. Weisz was close behind at 583.
"We had great individual performances today," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "I'm very proud of how the team shot today. Now we just wait and see if we get any individual invites [to NCAAs]."
The Rebels return home to host the GARC Championships Feb. 27-March 1 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. This will mark the 11th consecutive year for the Rebels to host the championships. Assistant coach Melissa Quartarone finished third in air rifle last year.
