Alison Weisz Earns NCAA Bid

OXFORD, Miss. - For the second consecutive year, Ole Miss sophomore Alison Weisz earned a bid to the NCAA Rifle Championships, as the 2015 teams and individuals were announced Thursday. This year's championships will be held March 13-14 at E.F. Horton Rifle Range and Patty Center on the Alaska Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Weisz, a native of Montana, was one of two individuals selected to compete in smallbore. Last year, Weisz became the first freshman to qualify for the NCAA Championships and competed in air rifle.
"We are so happy and proud for Ali," head coach Valerie Boothe said. She has really worked hard on her smallbore all season and it's great to see her rewarded for all that effort."
Weisz set the school record for smallbore with a 589 at the Withrow Invitational on Jan. 25. This past Saturday at the NCAA Qualifier, she posted a 583.
"I wasn't expecting this year to be a smallbore year, because I've always been more of an air shooter," Weisz said. "To see my scores come up in smallbore has been really encouraging. I'm no longer the innocent shooter I was last year. I know a lot more about how things work now. This time last year, I didn't even know what the selection show was, unlike this year I was trying to get my computer to work so I could see it in time. I got a little nervous not seeing my name until the last moment, so I was quite relieved to see it come up. Going for two different guns in two different years will be a very exciting experience."
The Rebels have now had an individual qualify for the NCAA Championships four straight years.
Ole Miss is set to host the GARC Championships Friday-Sunday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. Admission is free and Saturday fans will enjoy free coffee and breakfast. For more information on the GARC Championships, visit thechampionship central page.
