NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Southeastern Conference boasts six teams in the top 25, and the No. 15 ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team faced two of them this weekend. Unfortunately, the Rebels came away with two losses, including a 6-1 defeat at No.13 Vanderbilt Sunday.

The Rebels dropped a close doubles point and were unable to rebound in singles, losing all five matches in straight sets.

After seniors Erin Stephens and Iris Verboven lost 8-1 to 19th-ranked Sydney Campbell and Courtney Colton at No. 1 doubles, Mai El Kamash and Arianne Hartono won a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles, 8-7 against VU's Frances Altick and Marie Casares. Julia Jones and Natalie Suk battled back at No. 2 doubles before falling 8-6 as the Commodores clinched the point.

Vanderbilt got a quick win at No. 5 singles, as Ashleigh Antal defeated Stephens 6-1, 6-3, and then in a battle between two top 20 players, Campbell (No. 11) beat Jones (No. 14) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Astra Sharma clinched the victory for the Commodores with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hartono at No. 2 singles.

Suk picked up the lone win of the day for the Rebels, beating Altick 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 at No. 4 singles.

"Vanderbilt played a great match and was the better team today," head coach Mark Beyers said. "Obviously this is not how we wanted to start off the SEC part of our schedule, but we'll have to regroup, learn from some of the things that happened this weekend and get better. Looking forward to being at home the next two weekends."

The Rebels kick off a four-match homestand with Arkansas and LSU next weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Friday's match with Arkansas starts at 3 p.m.
